PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide methods for producing a latent heat storage medium and tetra-n-butyl ammonium phosphate useful as the guest compound of a clathrate hydrate having a latent heat storage effect and remarkably improving the problem of metal corrosion. SOLUTION: This method for producing tetra-n-butyl ammonium phosphate is characterized by comprising the first process for reacting a tetra-n-butyl ammonium halide with an alkali metal hydroxide in an organic solvent to produce the tetra-n-butyl ammonium hydroxide and the alkali metal halide, and the second process for removing the alkali metal halide and then neutralizing the tetra-n-butyl ammonium hydroxide with phosphoric acid in an organic solvent.
