PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device of an automatic transmission capable of improving fuel economy of an engine, by preventing a return from neutral control when a driver does not intend starting. SOLUTION: An ECU starts execution of the neutral control (Step S12), and determines whether or not a predetermined time t(s) is passed from an execution start of the neutral control when determining that a stepping force switch is OFF (Step S14). The ECU starts execution of return control (Step S16) when determining that the predetermined time t(s) is passed from the execution start of the neutral control (Yes in the Step S14) or when determining that the predetermined time t(s) is not passed from the execution start of the neutral control (No in the Step 14) and when determining that a step switch is OFF (Yes in Step S15).
