PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a 5,5-disubstituted-3-pyrrolin-2-one derivative and anα,α-disubstituted-α-amino acid derivative useful as synthetic intermediates simply and economically. SOLUTION: The 5,5-disubstituted-3-pyrrolin-2-one derivative is produced by reacting an acrylic acid amide derivative expressed by general formula (1) [wherein, X is a halogen atom; R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>are each a 1-8C alkyl or the like; and R<SP>3</SP>, R<SP>4</SP>are each a 1-8C alkyl or the like] with a base.
