PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of adequately performing printing operation even when paper sheets having different orientations are mixedly loaded and continuously operating the printing operation irrespective of the orientations of the paper sheets. SOLUTION: This sublimation printer 100 (image forming apparatus) comprises a stepping motor 24 for driving a paper supply roller 18, an identification part sensor 37 that detects an identification part 51a (or an identification part 51b) provided on a paper sheet 50 when the paper sheet 50 is fed by a paper feed roller 18 in the printing of image data 40, and a control section 31a that performs controlling for judging the orientation of the paper sheet 50 on the basis of a combination of the detected position of the paper sheet 50 at a time when the identification part 51a (or the identification part 51b) provided on the paper sheet 50 is detected by the identification part sensor 37 with the detection result of the identification part 51a (or the identification part 51b) detected by the identification part sensor 37, and determining the orientation in the printing of the image data 40.
