PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a damping force variable damper capable of adopting a yoke composed of a low strength raw material such as a composite soft magnetic material for a piston in a magnetic fluid valve. SOLUTION: This piston 16 is composed of an outer yoke 31 having its outer peripheral surface slidingly contacting with an inner wall surface of a cylinder 12, an inner yoke 32 arranged inside the outer yoke 31, a pair of upper and lower end plates 33 and 34 sandwiching/positioning the outer yoke 31 and the inner yoke 32, an MLV coil (a magnetic field impressing means) 35 fitted around a central part in the axial direction of the inner yoke 32, three sets of bolts 36 and nuts 37 being a fastening means, and a locking ring 38 for fixing the piston 16 to a piston rod 13.
