Disclosed is a fluorine-containing polycyclic aromatic compound represented by the general formula (I) below. This fluorine-containing polycyclic aromatic compound is a novel compound which is applicable as an organic n-type semiconductor having excellent electron transport property. (In the formula (I), Ar¹ and Ar² independently represent an aromatic hydrocarbon group having 6 or more carbon atoms or a heterocyclic group having 4 or more carbon atoms; R¹, R², R³ and R⁴ independently represent a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom or the like; R⁵ and R⁶ independently represent a hydrogen atom or an optionally substituted monovalent organic group; and s₁ and t₁ independently represent an integer of not less than 2. In this connection, at least one of R⁵ and R⁶ is a monovalent organic group wherein at least one of hydrogen atoms including one in a substituent is substituted by a fluorine atom.)
