The method involves operating portable radio devices (4, 5), when the devices are located in a coverage for a wireless local area network (WLAN)- connection to a telecommunication system (1). Communication establishment is initiated from telecommunication terminals (2, 3) e.g. integrated services digital network-fixed line telephone, which are different from the devices (4, 5) to an external telecommunication device and is performed over the devices, if a connection rule deposited on the system is fixed. A session initiation protocol (SIP) account is configured. An independent claim is also included for a telecommunication system comprising a wireless local area network access point.
