A mobile terminal having a qwerty keypad and a method for outputting DTMF(Dual Tone Multi Frequency) signals therein are provided to enable a user to input response information easily while watching the symbols of the keys of a qwerty layout, without the necessity of memorizing the alphabets of an existing 3x4 layout, as the DTMF signals of the symbols of the qwerty keys are identical to the DTMF signals of the symbols of the 3x4 keys. A mobile terminal(100) having a qwerty keypad comprises a radio communication part(14), qwerty keys(18), and a control part(11). The radio communication part transmits and receives information with a directory system. Symbols, including alphabets and numbers, are marked on the qwerty keys. In case a symbol of an arbitrary qwerty key is selected and inputted in order to input information the directory system requests, the control part outputs a DTMF signal corresponding to the same 3x4 key symbol as the selected and inputted symbol. |
