An autothermal fuel reformer is provided to effectively supply water vapor and oxygen required for autothermal reforming, to increase the efficiency and to enable downsizing of a reformer, while avoiding a need for an additional power source. A compact autothermal fuel reformer for producing hydrogen used in a fuel cell supplies water vapor and oxygen required for reforming through the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide injected in combination with fuel, wherein the fuel is methanol and the molar concentration of hydrogen peroxide and the concentration ratio of hydrogen peroxide to fuel are determined by using the following formula considering the thermal equilibrium: when s>1-sx, CH3OH(l)+s(xH2O2(l)+(1-x)H2O(l))-> (3-sx)H2+CO2+(sx+s-1)H2O(g)+ (49.5-339.9sx) kJ/mol; and when s<1-sx, CH3OH(l)+s(xH2O2(l)+(1-x)H2O(l)) -> (1-sx-s)CH3OH(g)+(3+2x)sH2+(1-sx+s)CO2+(49.5-290.4x)s kJ/mol. In the formula, x is the molar concentration of hydrogen peroxide and s is a value obtained by dividing the molar ratio of hydrogen peroxide to fuel by the molar concentration(x) of hydrogen peroxide. |
