A modular impact cushioning unit 1 comprises a seamless tube 2 of flexible material having circular end panels 3 secured to the ends thereof to define a closed cylindrical bag. Radially spaced pairs of fastening members 5, 6 are secured on diametrically opposing side regions 7 of the unit 1 to permit a plurality of such modular units 1 to be connected together closely adjacent one another in such a way that when the fastening members 5, 6 are secured to corresponding fastening members on an adjacent unit, the side region 7 of the unit 1 between the spaced pair of fastening members 5, 6 is compressed against the corresponding side region of the adjacent unit by virtue of the curvature of the side region 7 of the unit 1. |
