A system and a method for providing contents are provided to offer contents providing service efficiently and rapidly through management of the copyright of contents and manage the standard of contents used for the service to improve service quality. A contents providing system(100) includes a copyright management server(120) and a service provider(110). The copyright management server determines whether contents providing service is available according to whether contents provided from a source hold the copyright. The service provider provides the contents when the copyright management server determines that the contents providing service is available. The contents are preferably audio data.
