PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanical splice for which no high machining accuracy is required. SOLUTION: In a housing 2, there is housed a metallic sleeve 10 in which an end of one optical fiber 17 is abutted on an end of the other optical fiber 18 that is to be joined with the one optical fiber. Movable members 6, 7 are connected to both ends of the housing 2 respectively so that they are rotatable between a visible position of an optical fiber insertion and a fixable position of the first optical fiber.
