A floor sweeping apparatus comprises a cleaning head 6 with an elongate handle 1 fixed at its inner end by a pivoting joint 5 to the cleaning head 6, and at its outer end by a hinge 2 to an elongate handle extension 4. A locking mechanism preferably allows the handle extension 4 to be locked in different angular positions relative to the handle 1 and can be controlled from the handle extension 4. The hinge 2 may be a flexible member that permits pivoting between the handle 1 and handle extension 4 by flexure of the hinge 2. The locking mechanism includes spring means (17, fig 4) for biasing a lock (11, fig 4) to engage with a lock-engaging feature (24, fig 4) so that relative rotation between the handle 1 and handle extension 4 is prevented. |
