The carbon fiber sewing thread, for components of fibers and plastics, has a multifilament thread roving in a core (2). A crochet stitch mantle (4), of a different fiber type (1), forms an outer shrouding. The core, of staple fibers, contains hybrid threads. The outer mantle protects the sewing thread from friction damage as it passes through the thread guides. The outer mantle (4) is of a water-soluble polymer. A matrix mantle can be set through the structure of the fiber/plastics component material. The core can be of conductive fibers, and the mantle shrouding of nonconductive fibers. The outer mantle is formed of multifilament threads or texturized fibers.
