869,661. Belt-fed automatic weapons. MAUSER-WERKE A. G. Feb. 21, 1958 [Feb. 22, 1957], No. 5786/58. Class 92. An automatic firearm has an optional right or left-hand cartridge-belt feed mechanism in which a shift-roller 20 carrying belt-feed means 21 is operated by a spindle 16 through a reversible ratchet mechanism, the spindle 16 receiving a reversible rotary drive from a crank 10 operated by a breech-block 4. The crank 10 is rocked to and fro on its pivot 11 by a stud 4a on the breechblock engaging in a groove 10 (a) (Fig. 5). One or other of two projections 10 (b) imparts a reciprocating drive to a cranked lever 15 connected to the spindle 16. The roller 20 carrying belt-feed sprockets 21 rotates freely on the spindle which is keyed to a sleeve 30 on its front end. The sleeve 30 is keyed to a ratchet wheel 17 that is urged by a spring 19 to transmit motion one way only to another ratchet wheel 18 which is keyed to the roller 20. The spindle and its attachments are mounted in a casing 23 that hinges open about its front end to enable the ratchet wheels 17 and 18 to be interchanged and the alternative projection 10 (b) to be engaged with the crank 15 to cause the direction of the feed to be reversed. |
