The invention relates to an apparatus (1) for taking soil samples, comprising means (2) for moving the apparatus and sampling means (10) for taking soil samples during travel of the apparatus. The apparatus is provided with first means (8) for moving the sampling means substantially transversely of the direction of travel (A) and with second means (4) for moving the sampling means substantially parallel to the direction of travel.
