MOTION COMPENSATION AND MODE DETERMINATION APPARATUS OF MPEG-2 IMAGE ENCODER

PURPOSE: A motion compensation and mode determination apparatus is provided to enable to predict the most suitable motion with respect to a macro block inputted at present by performing a motion compensation operation with a predictive motion of the smallest error. CONSTITUTION: A frame motion estimation part(100) and a field motion estimation part(200)estimate motions between frames and estimate motions between fields, and calculate motion vector, respectively. A frame motion compensation part(300) and a field motion compensation part(400) carry out motion compensations to output frame and field estimation data, respectively. A frame mode determination part(600) determines a motion compensation mode with a difference value of field estimation data and macro block data. A motion compensation mode determination part determines a final motion compensation mode of a macro block.
