Method for modifying rubber and thermoplastic waste by means of grafting during a grinding process

Preparing polar modified rubber and thermoplastic wastes comprises grinding (shredding) the substandard parts containing vulcanized elastomer (rubber) or olefinic thermoplast to a particle size diameter of 4-8 mm; mixing the grounded elastomer or thermoplastic material with an organic peroxide and an alpha , beta -ethylenically at least an unsaturated polar group containing compound (polar monomer), in a mixture unit; and simultaneously milling and grafting the obtained mixture up to a particle size diameter of less than 1 mm in a miller at 40-140[deg] C for 30 seconds to 10 minutes. Preparation of polar modified rubber and thermoplastic wastes comprises grinding (shredding) the substandard parts containing vulcanized elastomer (rubber) or olefinic thermoplast in a grinding unit (shredder) to a particle size diameter of 4-8 mm; mixing the grounded elastomer or thermoplastic material with an organic peroxide and an alpha , beta -ethylenically at least an unsaturated polar group containing compound (polar monomer), in a mixture unit; simultaneously milling and grafting the obtained mixture up to a particle size diameter of less than 1 mm in a miller at 40-140[deg] C for 30 seconds to 10 minutes; and removing the residue of the monomer components, initiator components and volatile reaction byproducts from the milled reaction products by nitrogen spraying.
