PURPOSE: A liver function improver containing chlorella ellipsoidea is provided, which increases blood triglyceride, total cholesterol, HDL concentration and which improves GOT, GPT, ratio of albumin to globulin. CONSTITUTION: When a cadmium is administered to a monkey, a rabbit, a mouse for a long time, the amount of high density lipo-protein(HDL), cholesterol, triglyceride in blood serum are lowered. The cadmium increases glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase(GOT), glutamic pyruvic transaminase(GPT) and lowers a ratio of albumin to globulin by causing a liver dysfunction. A liver function improver is characterized by containing an effective amount of chlorella ellipsoidea that inhibits the increase of GOT caused by the cadmium and consequently suppresses a liver dysfunction. The effective amount of chlorella is 1g/kg, a day for an adult.
