The invention concerns the use of propionic bacteria selected according to their low propensity to autolysis and their resistance to bile salts to obtain a current food composition or a dietetic composition of a medicine absorbable by a human or animal, prepared in such a way that the bacteria are well protected at least partially against gastric acidity, containing at least 10<6> cell/grams of said bacteria, capable of stimulating and increasing significantly the synthesis of propionic acid and/or propionate and, as the case may be, acetic acid and/or acetate at the colon by anaerobic bacterial fermentation. |
