Fine mineral powder produced from dried and ground smectic clays such as naturally occurring sodium bentonites and alkaline activated mixed layer clays has a grain size main region of up to 0.1mm. a density of 900-1200 kg/m<3>, a water content of 7-12 wt.%, a Na2O content of 0.5-3.5, and a specific surface area per grain volume of 0.25-0.5 m<2>/cm<3>. An Independent claim is also included for a process for the production of the fine mineral powder.
