Non-invasive determination of blood characteristics including hemoglobin comprises calculating a quotient of detected intensities of reflected light of two light beams having different wavelengths from vessel containing mixture of liquid and blood cells and analyzing the quotient. Non-invasive determination of blood characteristics including hemoglobin from a mixture of liquid and blood cells in a light-pervious vessel comprises: (a) directing a first light beam and a second light beam of different wavelengths against the vessel; (b) detecting the intensity of the light of the first and second light beam, respectively, reflected from the vessel; (c) calculating a quotient of the detected intensities; and (d) analyzing the quotient. Independent claims are also included for: (A) blood characteristic determination apparatus comprising first and second light sources for directing light beams of different wavelengths; detector(s) for the intensity of the reflected light; and a processor for calculating the quotient of the detected intensities and for analyzing the quotient; and (B) a computer program stored on a data carrier for performing calculation and analysis of quotient of detected intensities. |
