A wastewater treatment method is provided to remove organic matters, heavy metals, recalcitrant substances and nutrients more effectively, assure stable water purification capability, and improve cumbersomeness in construction or replacements by forming peat moss in the form of a filter with a predetermined shape and disposing the filter in a purification tank, and a wastewater treatment plant employing the method is provided. A wastewater treatment plant comprises: a screen tank(11), a collecting and settling tank(12), and a sludge dewatering equipment(17) for performing a pretreatment step of removing solids and sludge; a water treatment tank(13) including an ozone water treatment tank for performing sterilizing, deodorizing and discoloring the wastewater en bloc to carry out a water treatment step by sterilizing, deodorizing and discoloring wastewater from which the solids and sludge have been removed and removing fine sludge from the wastewater, and a micro-filter tank(14) for removing fine sludge by filters; a purification tank(16) in which a water treating material is disposed to perform a purification process of purifying wastewater passing through the water treatment step and discharging the purified wastewater, the water treating material being prepared in the form of a filter by solidifying Sphagnum Peat Moss as a natural organic material that has been uniformly pulverized to a particle size corresponding to a sieve size of 18 to 100 mesh; and an activated carbon tank(18) using activated carbon for adjusting color variations of effluent generated in the early purification stage in the purification tank.
