A method for operating a memory array using a mechanical switch is provided to perform random access addressing by selecting a single memory cell, by assembling a source voltage and a gate voltage. According to a method for operating a memory array using a mechanical switch, a first voltage is applied to a selected bit line(B/L0) of a number of bit lines. A second voltage is applied to a selected word line(W/L0) of a number of word lines. The second voltage is larger than the sum of the first voltage and a pull-in voltage. A voltage smaller than the sum of a minimum voltage of the bit line and the pull-in voltage and larger than the difference between a maximum voltage of the bit line and the pull-in voltage is applied to an unselected word line.
