A display apparatus is provided to enhance response speed of a liquid crystal through pretilt and an overshoot operations by outputting first and second compensation signals using gray scale signals. A display apparatus includes a display panel, first and second gray scale compensators(442,444), and a data driver. The display panel includes plural pixel units each of which includes first and second sub-pixel units. The first gray scale compensator generates a first compensation gray scale signal of an (n-1)-th frame using gray scale signals of (n-1)-th and (n-2)-th frames. The second gray scale compensator generates a second compensation gray scale signal of the (n-1)-th frame using the first compensation gray scale signal of an (n-1)-th frame and a gray scale signal of an n-th frame. The data driver converts the second compensation gray scale signal of the (n-1)-th frame into first and second gray scale voltages, and supplies the first and second gray scale voltages to the first and second sub-pixel units.
