PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for stably producing a high-quality methacrylic resin. SOLUTION: The method for producing the methacrylic resin includes using a stainless steel surface-treated with an aqueous solution of a chelating agent as a mold, and polymerizing a polymerizable raw material containing≥50 mass% methyl methacrylate monomer in the mold. The stainless steel having≤20 atomic% iron concentration on the surface measured by an X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy is used as the mold, and an aminocarboxylic acid-based chelating agent is used as the chelating agent.
