PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent damage of a printing mechanism part by idle printing or waste of a printing sheet since printing up to the last line can not be performed when a printing sheet is shifted and installed by intervention of an operator in a state of printing between the printing mechanism part and a sheet rear end detecting sensor, in a printer for a continuous sheet. SOLUTION: When a sheet hole detecting sensor detects an operation of a sheet, regardless of a printing operation, in a conventional printer, opposite direction sheet feeding one dot by one dot is executed just before starting the next printing operation. A distance while a rear end of the sheet passes a sheet rear end detecting sensor is calculated. By the distance and a distance from the printing mechanism part to the sheet rear end detecting sensor, a distance from the rear end of the sheet up to the printing mechanism part is calculated, and the distance is set as printable sheet remaining amount.
