PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medical and dental handpiece for rotating a tool retained at the head part at high speed without making the head part large. SOLUTION: The handpiece comprises a head part 2 which rotatably retains a rotor 24 keeping the tool 91 attachably and detachably and a grasping part 3 which supports the head part 2 at the front end and is grasped by an operator. The grasping part 3 comprises a handle part 31 extending from the head part 2 and a body part 32 extending in the direction of an obtuse angle from the rear end of the handle part 31 and is characterized by having an axial-flow turbine 5 built in the body part 32 and a rotation transmitting mechanism for rotating the rotor 24 of the head part 2 by transmitting the rotations of the axial-flow turbine 5.
