PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform digest playback over a plurality of contents regarding a plurality of contents being recorded on a recording medium. SOLUTION: Regarding a program with a high audience rating among programs broadcast for one week, for example, a playback apparatus is capable of performing digest playback on a portion with the high audience rating in the program. In the Fig.4, if the digest playback is performed on the basis of the audience rating in a case where four programs from V1 to V4 are being recorded on an HDD 19, for a playback period M1 in the program V2, playback periods M2a and M2b in the program V3 and a playback period M3 in the program V4, digest playback is performed as illustrated on a lower part of the Fig.4.
