摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid-state imaging device in which not only a wide dynamic range can be coped at any time but also a user can switch the dynamic range depending on a photography scene, and to provide its operation method. SOLUTION: A plurality of pixels each having a photodiode, a transfer transistor, a floating diffusion, an additional capacitor element, a capacitive coupling transistor, and a reset transistor are integrated in an array on a semiconductor substrate wherein a capacity of the floating diffusion is smaller than a capacity of the photodiode. As an output of a pixel, a first signal S<SB>1</SB>obtained by transferring photocharges stored in the photodiode PD of all pixels partially or entirely to floating diffusion FD, or a second signal S<SB>1</SB>+S<SB>2</SB>obtained by transferring the photocharges stored in the photodiode of all pixels entirely to potential which is obtained by coupling the floating diffusion and an additional capacitor element C<SB>S</SB>is outputted.
