PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an operating method of an automated warehouse for improving shipping efficiency. SOLUTION: A plurality of storage shelves 12 are arranged in parallel in a width direction. A stacker crane 20 performing warehousing work and shipping work in relation to the storage shelves 12 on both of right and left sides is arranged between the storage shelves 12. Each of shipping stations 32 corresponding to each of the stacker cranes 20 is set on a front side of the storage shelves 12 group, and a shipping carriage 34 is constituted to reciprocatively move between the shipping station 32 and a receiving position 33. The stacker crane 20 transferring a steel material bundle 14 to the shipping carriage 34 standing by at the receiving position 33 starts a receiving work of a steel material bundle 14 to be the next shipping object, regardless of the present position of the shipping carriage 34, by an input of a shipping request signal from a control device 28.
