PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve electric characteristics of a surface acoustic wave device used mainly for radio communication equipment. SOLUTION: The present invention includes a piezoelectric substrate 1, an interdigital electrode 2 provided on a top surface of the piezoelectric substrate 1, and a support layer 5 provided on a reverse surface of the piezoelectric substrate 1, wherein the support layer 5 provided on the reverse surface of the piezoelectric substrate 1 constituting the surface acoustic wave device is made of a polycrystal body.
