PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve reliability of an optical element including a surface-light-emitting type semiconductor laser portion and a light detector portion. SOLUTION: The optical element 100 includes a surface-light-emitting type semiconductor laser portion 140, a separating portion 20 formed on the surface-light-emitting type semiconductor laser portion, and a light detection portion 120 formed on the separating portion. The separating portion has a first separating layer 22 composed of a first conductive semiconductor and a second separating layer 24 composed of a second conductive semiconductor which differs from the first separating layer in the index of refraction and functions as a mirror which reflects the light of oscillation wavelength from the surface- light-emitting type semiconductor laser portion.
