Process for the Separation of Paclitaxel and Cephalomannin

Paclitaxel is separated from a mixture containing cephalomannin by column chromatography on silica gel using a solvent mixture containing methyl isobutyl ketone and a less polar solvent as the mobile phase. The less polar solvent can be a (C₅-C₈) aliphatic hydrocarbon, a (C₆-C₈) aromatic hydrocarbon, a (C₁-C₄) dialkyl ether or their mixtures.
