It is an object to provide a lighting device that emits light in a rather broad area, secures the degree of a size of its light emitting plane, and yet is as thin in shape as possible. The lighting device is comprised of a band-like substrate (10); a plurality of side view type LED devices (20) fixed in series on the substrate in a longitudinal direction of the substrate (10); a surface light emitting type light guide plate (30), a side surface of which is fixed in contact with a lighting surface of the side view LED devices (20), and which projects light incident from the edge surface to a flat plane; a light diffusion sheet (43) positioned at a surface the light guide plate (30) emits light; and a reflective sheet positioned opposite to the light diffusion sheet (43). Each of the components (10, 20, 30, 42 and 43) is supported by an uneven metallic plate (41).
