<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a collision detection means having the consistent polarity of the output signal of a distortion detection means. <P>SOLUTION: The collision detection means comprises a bumper reinforcement 1, a side supporting member which is a side member 2 or a crash box 3, a distortion detection means 4 for detecting the distortion generated in the side supporting member, a body part 50 to which the distortion detection means 4 is fixed, a substantially plate-shaped body part extending in the longitudinal direction of a vehicle with the distortion detection means being fixed thereto, and a distorted element 5 having one fixed part 52 provided on the body part 50 and fixed to the bumper reinforcement 1 or the side supporting member and the other fixed part 52 provided on the body part 50 and fixed to the side supporting member.
