PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface treated steel sheet which is used for a beverage can, a food can or the like, and is excellent in organic film adhesion and corrosion resistance. SOLUTION: The plated steel sheet for can, which is provided with a tin alloy layer and a metal tin layer in this order from the steel sheet side, is at least provided with a chemical conversion treatment layer comprising tin oxide of 0.3 to 5.0 mC/cm<SP>2</SP>as the quantity of electricity required for reduction, and tin phosphate of 0.5 to 5.0 mg/m<SP>2</SP>in terms of a P content on the upper layer thereof. It is preferable that the surface of the chemical conversion treatment layer is provided with a film containing a silanol group-containing organic compound of 0.2 to 2 mg/m<SP>2</SP>in terms of an Si content.
