PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a classification evaluation device for providing a user with an index in selecting target classification from classification obtained by automatic classification. SOLUTION: This classification evaluation device for evaluating the result of the classification of a plurality of data on the basis of the characteristics of data is provided with: a similarity calculation part 104 for calculating the similarity of the characteristics of data with characteristics representing data belonging to the classification to which the data belong; and a classification evaluation part 106 for evaluating the classification on the basis of the similarity calculated about each data belonging to the classification. Thus, it is possible to automatically evaluate and display validity of classification in narrowing down the classification to be used for the retrieval of data from a plurality of classifications.
