PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a cationically dyeable extrafine false-twist textured polyester yarn improved in mechanical properties, dyeability and color fastness, especially black color tone, and good in touch feeling, owing to being smooth in its false-twisting process. SOLUTION: The method for producing the cationically dyeable extrafine false-twist textured polyester yarn includes the following steps: Highly oriented undrawn polyester yarns consisting of a modified polyester being 0.6 or higher in intrinsic viscosity, copolymerized with 2.0-5.0 mol% of a specific phosphonium sulfonate salt are subjected to draw-false-twist texturizing. The cationically dyeable extrafine false-twist textured polyester yarn thus obtained has a single filament fineness of 1.5 dtex or less, a tenacity of 3.0 cN/dtex or higher and a TC (total crimp percentage) of 3.0% or greater. The above properties of the final false-twist textured polyester yarn can be attained by using the highly oriented undrawn polyester yarns having a tenacity of 1.5 cN/dtex and satisfying the formulaΔIV<0.05.
