The invention relates to a method for the production of 2,4-dihydroxyphenyl-4-methoxybenzyl ketones of the formula (I) by means of Friedel-Crafts acylation in hydrogen fluoride (HF). 2,4-dihydroxyphenyl-4-methoxybenzyl ketones of the formula (I), in which R<SUP>1</SUP> and R<SUP>2</SUP> are hydrogen, chlorine, fluoride, bromine, iodine, CF<SUB>3</SUB>, methyl, optionally substituted alkoxy, OCF<SUB>3</SUB>, -C(CH<SUB>3</SUB>)<SUB>3</SUB>, -CH<SUB>2</SUB>(CH<SUB>3</SUB>)<SUB>2</SUB>, -CH(CH<SUB>3</SUB>)<SUB>2</SUB>, R<SUP>3</SUP> is hydrogen, Cl, F, Br, optionally substituted alkyl, optionally substituted alkoxy, -C(CH<SUB>3</SUB>)<SUB>3</SUB>, and X is hydroxy, F, Cl, Br, optionally substituted alkoxy, are produced in high yield and high purity by converting phenyl acetic acid derivatives of the formula (II) with phenols of the formula (III) into liquid hydrogen fluoride (HF). |
