PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a telephone device which can output to a specific caller such as an important customer an optimum holding tone according to the caller, and which can reduce annoyance due to waiting for a long time. SOLUTION: A telephone device has a designation means F46 designating holding tone identifying information from among information registered in a private information database F47, a storage means F46 storing a correspondence between the designated holding tone identifying information and holding tone information, an acquisition means F44 acquiring a telephone number of a caller before start of communication, and a transmission means F45 retrieving the private information database based on the telephone number acquired by the acquisition means F44 upon holding, extracting the holding tone information corresponding to the holding tone identifying information, and transmitting the holding tone corresponding to the holding tone information to the caller.
