PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a poor discharge of an ink-jet recording head more accurately in a real time. SOLUTION: The number of dots which makes an ink discharged for every writing period and for each block of the recording head is counted. The counting is continued for a predetermined column or a predetermined time, and an image recording density for each block and each recording width is computed from the number of ink droplets discharged with a certain recording width and total dot number. Referring to a threshold value established to the calculated value in LUT, it is decided which nozzle of the recording head is to be the object of the poor discharge examination. At the time of an actual writing movement, the poor discharging inspection is performed for the nozzles of the poor discharge inspection object. If the nozzle of poor discharging is detected, the inspection object is extended even to the near nozzles. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
