The invention relates to a device with a lateral occipital expansion screw to be included in posterior occipitocervical stabilisation systems, formed by three elements, namely: a flat-head expansion screw, a retaining ring which can expand at one end thereof, and a nut for securing an orthopaedic support pin. The expansion ring is secured to the cranium bone in the same way as a conventional bicortical screw and, once in place, the expansion screw is pressed against the ring causing the expansion of the edge of the retaining ring inside the cranium of the patient, thereby anchoring the assembly even in the case of highly porous, low-density bone. The threaded elements include flat areas so that conventional tools can be used to install or remove same. The device is made from conventional materials such as surgical-grade titanium or steel.
|
