A Hangul keypad for a portable electronic device and an input method thereof are provided to offer a simple and intuitive interface capable of inputting all Hangul graphemes effectively with the restricted number of buttons in the portable electronic device, and realize a better design for the portable electronic device equipped with the keypad. Hangeul consonant buttons are not discriminated from Hangul vowel buttons. Respective buttons for inputting characters support consonant and vowel input at the same time. The consonant are inputted by the buttons in which the consonant is assigned, and the vowel is inputted by combination of the button in which the vowel is assigned and a vowel input key embedded in a keypad system. The consonant or the vowel assigned to the same button is inputted depending on physical quantity applied to the button by applying a sensor for detecting the physical quantity to the button.
