Vaginal delivery of progestin to promote regular withdrawal bleeding

A method of promoting regular bleeding in a woman undergoing cyclical progestin administration comprising cyclical daily vaginal delivery of progestin via a drug delivery system in an amount sufficient to cause secretory differentiation of the endometrium while avoiding significant adverse side effects. Also described is a pharmaceutical composition for the use of constant vaginal administration of a progestin to cause endometrial atrophy while maintaining amenorrhea.
