<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shaft thickening apparatus with which a thickening work is performable even to a long workpiece without bringing about the increase of scale and the collision of the workpiece with the apparatus itself is avoidable when setting and detaching the workpiece. <P>SOLUTION: This shaft thickening apparatus is provided with a drive-side holder unit (6a) which is tiltable in the vertical direction, a driven-side holder unit (6b) which is opposed to this holder unit (6a), arranged attachably and detachably to the holder unit (6a) and sets the workpiece in cooperation with the holder unit (6a), and a pressurizing cylinder (84) with which the drive-side holder unit (6b) can be pressed toward the drive-side holder unit (6a).
