PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a case material of a secondary battery capable of mass production and with solidity improved of a joining surface for closing a receiving section of a case where the battery is stored. SOLUTION: The case material of a secondary battery is constituted by comprising the receiving section 52 having a recessed receiving space receiving a battery body 4, a first joining section extending along an edge of the receiving section, a gas receiving section 55 arranged adjacent to the receiving section and having a recessed space for receiving the gas from the receiving section of the battery body, a recessed passage 56 connecting between the receiving section and gas receiving section, a cover 53 for making the receiving section and gas receiving section close while the receiving section and gas receiving section are still communicated with each other through the passage when the cover extends from one end of the receiving section and gas receiving section and is folded against the receiving section and gas receiving section, and a second joining section joined in response to the first joining section when folded against the receiving section and extending along the edge of the cover.
