PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical connector that is structured by fusion splicing a pigtail optical fiber and an external optical fiber, that has stable optical transmission characteristics, and that excels in long term reliability. SOLUTION: In the optical connector 1, a ferrule 4 is arranged inside a connector housing 2, wherein the pigtail optical fiber 20 with one end fixed to the ferrule 4 and the external optical fiber 21 to be drawn outside are fusion spliced with each other. A welded reinforcing body 10 is installed to cover the fusion spliced part and is housed in the outer cylinder housing 2B of the connector housing 2 with almost no space therebetween.
