PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an indirect heating kiln, lowering the manufacturing cost of a kiln by reducing an outer peripheral portion unenclosed by a heating chamber at both ends of a rotary drum constituting the kiln to a size smaller than before, and performing inching when the continuous rotation of the kiln is temporarily stopped. SOLUTION: This indirect heating kiln includes: the rotary drum 1 for heating a material to be processed while rotating the material; and heating chambers 2 enclosing the outer periphery of the rotary drum, wherein a heating medium is circulated through the heating chambers to transfer heat to the rotary drum and heat the drum. In the kiln, both end portions of the rotary drum are extended outward over the shaft length of the heating chamber, bearings 5 and 6 are provided as a ring around both extended ends of the rotary drum, a driving gear 7 is attached on the outer periphery of one of the bearings provided as a ring, and a transmission system of a drive source is meshed with the attached driving gear to provide a main driving device 8 for rotating the rotary drum without rotating the heating chamber.
