PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid detector of a simple structure for determining a liquid existence state in a container from the exterior of the container in a shorter time with satisfactory work efficiency. SOLUTION: This liquid detector 1 is used by being mounted on the container 190 at a measurement execution position set on an outer surface of its side wall part 200 with the container 190 containing a liquid L taken as a measured system, and includes an acoustic excitation means 2 for acoustically exciting the measured system via a side wall surface of the container 190. Further, this liquid detector 1 includes a reverberation detection means 2 used by being mounted at the execution position together with the excitation means 2 for detecting reverberation information from the measured system when stopping an acoustic excitation input into the measured system owing to the excitation means 2. Based on the detected reverberation information, liquid existence state information is output reflecting the existing state of the liquid L at the execution position in the container 190.
